Sleep Problems and Mental Health Issues (FULL)

Speakers: Bruce Arroll, Professor and Head of Department of General Practice and Primary Health Care at the University of Auckland and Director of the PHARMAC Seminar Series will facilitate the seminar. Dr Tony Fernando, an award winning psychiatrist from the University of Auckland, will be the resource person for the day.

THIS SEMINAR IS NOW FULL.

This seminar will be a mixture of lectures and case based teaching on common mental health conditions.

The common causes of sleep disorders will be discussed. These include depression, anxiety, sleep apnea, primary insomnia and restless legs syndrome. The treatments for these conditions will be discussed.

The common mental health conditions will also be discussed. This includes depression, anxiety and drug and alcohol disorders and somatoform disorders. Issues such as treatment resistant depression and anxiety will be discussed. Participants are welcome to bring cases they are having difficulty with.

Audience: Applicants should be those who work with patients who present with sleep problems and mental health problems and ideally be nurses, doctors, pharmacists, midwives but other disciplines are welcome to attend.
