An American by birth, Henry obtained his B. A. from Harvard College and then his M. D. from the University of Minnesota Medical School. During a medical elective, he first came to New Zealand. After further training in Canada, a year's General Practice in rural Minnesota and six months in New Guinea, he and his Kiwi General Practitioner wife returned to NZ where he has been a GP in Pakuranga for over 35 years. He taught in the Department of General Practice and Primary Health Care for sixteen years with a special interest in undergraduate teaching, both in the Department and in his General Practice.
His non-medical interests include tramping, sea swimming, golf, single malt whisky and travel, the latter particularly relevant as his three grown children (two lawyers and an engineer), with two now back in NZ and one still in the UK.
